In his first trip to Venice, 1494, Albrecht Durer became acquainted
with the remarkable Bellini family of artists. Durer's chalk and
watercolor portrait of Queen Caterina Cornaro
(B-31), formerly in the collection of the Bremen Kunsthalle, is
generally thought to be a study based on a now-lost portrait of
the Queen by Gentile Bellini.
