Villa Cornaro (later Mocenigo, now Venezze)

Via Vicenza 33, Poisolo, Treville di Castelfranco Veneto (Treviso)

Villa Cornaro-Venezze

VILLA CORNARO at Poisolo sits on land acquired by the Cornaro family in the mid-1300s when the Trevisan March first came into the possession of Venice. In 1509 the dwelling on the property was partially destroyed by enemy troops in the War of the League of Cambrai.

The present villa in its original form was designed by Vincenzo Scamozzi and illustrated in his book L'Idea dell'Architettura Universale [The Idea of Universal Architecture]. In the 1800s, however, the villa was radically redesigned, losing its previous stylistic character.
