III. Selected Cornaro Villas and Castles

Although at least 22 surviving villas in the Veneto can be traced to the Cornaro family, many of the great Cornaro villas have disappeared.

With the exception of Villa Cornaro-Gable at Piombino Dese (designed by Andrea Palladio) and Villa Cornaro-Chiminelli at S. Andrea, the original architectural and decorative elements of the Cornaro villas in the Venetan countryside have been largely lost through destruction or radical alteration; only their sad shadows remain.

Among the losses are works of Falconetto, Sanmicheli and Scamozzi.
