Queen Caterina Cornaro

by Albrecht Durer

formerly Bremen Kunsthalle

In his first trip to Venice, 1494, Albrecht Durer became acquainted with the remarkable Bellini family of artists. Durer's chalk and watercolor portrait of Queen Caterina Cornaro (B-31), formerly in the collection of the Bremen Kunsthalle, is generally thought to be a study based on a now-lost portrait of the Queen by Gentile Bellini.
