SEN. GIOVANNI CORNARO was the son of Federico Cornaro (SA-35), progenitor of the Piscopia branch of the Cornaro family and the wealthiest man in Venice. Upon his father's death, Sen. Giovanni commissioned the Cornaro-Piscopia Chapel at the Church of S. Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, dedicated to his uncle Marco Cornaro (SA-33) but with a prominent monument to his father.
